Today's blog post is a really sad one, and it's not my story to tell, but in sharing it I hope to somehow help out a beautiful family and spread a message. There's this blogger I follow...well, that all bloggers I know follow. I don't know her personally- I've never met her or even talked to her directly, but I've been a fan of her blog and have been following her and her family's journey for many years now. Everyone knows her- Emily, the gorgeous red-haired mama of 5 little ones who does the beautiful hair tutorials, otherwise knows as The Freckled Fox. You've probably seen her on Pinterest, or Instagram, or maybe you've read her blog yourself.
Well, her beautiful, sweet family's story took a shocking and devastating turn last year when her beloved husband, Martin, was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma. He put up an amazing fight and they did everything they could to beat the cancer, but sadly, it's just too aggressive, and Emily and her children have now been told to prepare to say goodbye to their husband and father.
“I could feel my heart getting heavier with every word of her explanation. Then she took a deep breath and said those words so apologetically, “I mean we’re talking a few weeks here, maybe.” I can’t even explain what that felt like. All I know is that I was holding his warm hand, and I saw our five little babies in my mind, and I knew that no matter what happened to Marty that we would all be together. That our family was forever, and that everything would be OK, no matter what.” (an excerpt from Emily's latest blog update).
I cannot even begin to imagine the nightmare that Emily is living in right now- just like her, I rely on my husband for everything. He's my rock, my best friend, and I don't know what I would do without him. Their love story is so sweet and I can't even think about it without the tears beginning to flow. Emily is handling it all with such grace, and she's finding the silver linings in everything. She's facing these new challenges for her family while remaining strong. I don't know how she does it.
All we can do now...the rest of us- her fellow bloggers, blog readers, supporters, friends, acquaintances...all we can do now is pray for this beautiful family. If you have a moment, please keep the Meyer family in your prayers. You can read their story on her blog at The Freckled Fox or on instagram @thefreckledfox.
If you have the means, please consider donating to her fundraiser to help with medical expenses. You can find that here, every penny counts. I think most of all, just be inspired by her story. Let it motivate you to cherish your relationships, to hug those you love just a little tighter and to be grateful for all your beautiful blessings. If you can, please spread their story of faith on your blog, instagram, personal facebook page or share it with your family and friends.
