Rethink Colour: maintaining your roots at home

As a former hairstylist, keeping my roots touched up used to be a big priority in life. Like clockwork, I was in that salon chair every 2 weeks getting fresh color on my mousy brown new growth like my life depended on it. Nowadays, as a busy mom of 3 with one more on the way, my trips to the salon are pretty few and far between. My days of sitting in the salon chair are pretty limited, so oftentimes I'm left to deal with my roots myself at home until I can make it in for a hair appointment. Hats, headbands, and creative hairstyles can only do so much to hide them, but my favorite way to disguise my roots on a daily basis is with the new John Frieda Root Blur™ Colour Blending Concealer.

Root Blur is the product I've been searching for for years. I love the grown out, rooty, ombre look I've been sporting this last year because it lets me be blonde but without the high maintenance. I can go six months without bleach touching my hair, but my natural hair color does not match the rich, dark brown colored parts that melt into the blonde ends. Root Blur is the perfect solution for that, since obsessively coloring my roots now with all of these kids is out of the question. Ain't nobody got time for that!

Seriously, I cannot tell you how excited I was to see this product at Target. Anyone who knows me knows I love Target and frequent there on a weekly basis. On this particular trip, I was with one of my best gal pals when I saw the John Frieda end cap and ran over to it. I had just been telling her about this miracle product, Root Blur, and there it was in all its' glory.

At first glance, the John Frieda Root Blur™ Colour Blending Concealer looks a little like an eyeshadow palette, but it's so much more than that. Inside the cute little compact is a pressed mineral powder in two customizable shades- I chose the Chestnut to Espresso to match my dark brown root area. It's a light and weightless-feeling powder that stays right where you put it until your next shampoo and won't rub off, helping you extend the time between coloring. It's so quick and easy- anyone can apply it and it looks completely natural. The little brush that comes with it is the perfect little size to pick up the powder and apply it on your roots and blend into the rest of the hair. It took me less than 2 minutes to touch up my hairline and center part and the results were pretty startling. I had no obvious roots- no one could tell that I should have been at the salon about 4 months ago anymore.

Root Blur is definitely a hair staple for me now and I keep it in my purse at all times. Every once in a while I'll pull down the mirror in the driver's seat and notice my roots are popping out at me, and all it takes is a quick swipe of Root Blur to blend it away. I can skip the salon more often and extend the time in between my color appointments!

Make sure to take advantage of Target's current promotion: Buy 3 Products get a $5 Target Gift Card. It would be a great time to grab Root Blur in one of four great shades, ranging from light blonde to dark brown. Look for the end cap display at your local Target now through March 5th and figure out which shade is perfect for you!
