Lime All The Time- a perfect green summer mani

Friday, June 27, 2014

Last week I reviewed Gelish MINI's Colors of Paradise summer 2014 line and showed off one of my summer manicures using some of the new colors.

Pacific Sunset and Tahiti Hottie were an awesome color combo and my nails stayed looking gorgeous for 2 weeks. They even survived three trips to the water park! I love how long Gelish lasts. I don't have to worry about my nails because they are always looking good.

I could not wait to try out another color from the summer line. Deciding on one was hard. Like I said before, we've been spending a lot of time at our water park, so I wanted something very bright and fun. I opted for the brightest color- a beautiful lime green creme color called Lime All The Time. I was worried it might be a tad "young" or perhaps a bit tacky even, but I actually love how they turned out. They are the perfect shade of lime green and really make me look a lot tanner than I am! I can't wait to rock these poolside.

The silver glittery color on the pinkie is just loose silver crafting glitter embedded in the gel and sealed in with the top coat. You can find out how to embed loose glitter in your gel manicure on this post here. It's really easy and anyone can do it, regardless of your skill level with nails.

So are you loving the Colors of Paradise line as much as I am?

How to clean microfiber furniture with baby wipes!

Monday, June 23, 2014

I finally got the couch I've been wanting. At long last, I have the grey sectional with a chaise lounge on it that I've been lusting after for years. It seemed like the perfect size and fit for our family, and I love that it's big enough that we can all comfortably sit/lay together for family movie nights.

The one thing I don't love about it, however? It stains easily. Like super easily. It's microfiber, which looks nice, but is extremely prone to stains and water spots. Meaning, even if I just drip water on the couch it will leave a visible water ring there after it dries. Uh oh. That's a big problem for me because we always eat and drink in the living room and on the couch, and obviously we are going to do a little bit more than just drip water on the new couch from time to time. And if, God-forbid, you actually spill something besides water on it? Well, you might be able to get the stain out pretty easily, but the dreaded water ring will still be there. And then you try to get rid of the water ring, thus making a larger water ring. Maybe microfiber wasn't the best choice for us. Regardless, I still love the couch, but it means I had to find a way to spot clean it without leaving water rings all over it.

So what's the secret? For some reason, after all of my searching on the intewebs, I've realized that it's baby wipes. Baby wipes, a little rubbing alcohol, and a blow dryer. That's all you need to get water rings out of your microfiber furniture. I'm not exactly sure what it is in the baby wipes that is so great, but it they really do work!

Here's what you do:

  • Step 1- Blot/rub the stain with a baby wipe.
  • Step 2- When stain appears to mostly be gone, spray the area with some rubbing alcohol. Blot/rub some more with the baby wipe until the stain/water appears to be gone.
  • Step 3- Use the wipe to "feather" out the wet area you just cleaned. We want to prevent a water ring from forming, so don't leave a harsh edge of where the dry couch meets wet.
  • Step 4- Before the area starts to dry on it's own, use a blow dryer on a medium setting and carefully (but quickly) dry the area completely. You don't want it to try on it's own!
If you can still see the water ring you may need to repeat this process again.
(I had to do it twice on most spots).

Once you've done it correctly, the stain/water ring should be completely gone!

See? No more unsightly spot.

You can do this on all of the water rings/stains on your microfiber furniture, or if it's really bad, you can do the entire cushion that needs cleaning. You would use the same process just on a larger scale. Try breaking it up into manageable sections though- too big of an area will be hard to tackle and will probably start to dry on it's own before you're ready for it to, which will just be a losing battle against the water rings.

This little cleaning tip worked great using my Huggies Clutch 'n' Clean wipes! Aren't they the cutest? You can read more about them here.

Just another amazing use for baby wipes.
Happy cleaning!

Stylish Baby Wipes with Huggies Clutch 'n' Clean

Monday, June 16, 2014

If there's one thing I truly hate, it's messes.
Whether it's dirty dishes, piles of laundry, crumbs on the floor, or sticky hands...messes bug me.Maybe that's why even though my kids are 9 and 6 and have clearly been out of diapers for years now, I still stock up on baby wipes in my house. What mom, or dad for that matter, doesn't love baby wipes? They are such handy little suckers and are perfect for all kinds of messes and quick clean ups. The only problem is once the kids outgrow the diaper bag stage, a bulky pack of baby wipes in your purse or car isn't always the most stylish or hip looking thing.

So moms, let me introduce the new Huggies Clutch 'n' Clean baby wipes.

These new wipes are my new favorite must-have item with 2 very messy kids (and another baby on the way). They are so cute and stylish and come in three different designs. They are small enough to fit almost anywhere, from the car to your purse, and the snapping wrist strap makes them portable and can be hooked onto a stroller or handle. Best of all, they are refillable! When you run out of wipes simply refill them with your favorite Huggies wipes and you can reuse the clutch over and over again.

I've got these Huggies Clutch 'n' Clean wipes (in my favorite design) tucked away in my purse right now, ready to take with me anywhere. As a busy mom, we're always on the go. Wherever we end up, the kids are always in need of a good hand or face washing at some point. A trip to the park equals dirty, grimy hands on the way home. Plus if we bring snacks that means we've got sticky fingers and faces to clean up too. Going to the water park? Better bring some wipes because greasy, sunscreen-covered faces seem to attract crumbs and bits of food like none other, especially if we've had ice cream. How about a trip to Target? We can't go without getting the kids some popcorn and Icees, which leads to buttery fingers and blue lips- better bust out some wipes and get cleaned up!

Huggies Clutch 'n' Clean are always within arms reach for me and they have Triple-Clean layers, which means they are strong, soft, and absorbent. I'm always prepared for any kind of on-the-go mess, big or small.

So what's your favorite feature of the Clutch 'n' Clean wipes?
The portability? The strap? The design? Or the fact that they are refillable?
Which design is your favorite?

Make sure to pick up your own Huggies Clutch 'n' Clean wipes!
They are available now nationwide and retail for about $3.99.

Thank you Huggies for sponsoring today's post, but my love for their new stylish diaper wipes are all my own!

Turning 30 & some crafty stuff

Saturday, June 14, 2014

Well hello there.
I seem to have been MIA lately, and I'm sorry for that. Things have been a little crazy around here and it's been a little quiet on the blog because of that. Here's a little of what's been going on.

First off, I turned 30 on Thursday. 30. That's crazy to me. I cannot believe that I'm 30 with a 9 1/2 year old, a 6 year old, and another one on the way very soon. I guess I was thinking I'd be in my twenties for a little bit longer.

My BFF surprised me and sent this really cute "30" care package for me. Isn't she sweet?

We didn't do anything crazy for my birthday...that's not really my style. I haven't done a big celebration in years and we kept it pretty low key again. It was the kids' last day of school, so they got out at 11:15am. My husband took the day off work and tried to surprise me with a really fancy gift- a new Nook tablet. However, he didn't realize that it was the same exact tablet that I already have. I guess the sales lady at Barnes & Noble fibbed and told him that this one had just come out, so he thought it must be better than the one I upgraded to a year ago (it wasn't- I have the newest version, which came out last year). I felt bad for him because he was so excited to give it to me and I had to tell him that I already had it! Oh well, it was a really nice thought and I was so impressed that he tried to do that for me. We spent the afternoon at the mall returning my gift, eating, and doing a little shopping. Then we came home and one of my friends and her daughter came over for the evening. We barbequed some really good steaks and shrimp and the kids played together. It was a pretty fun day!

Lily graduated from Kindergarten this week too!
I can't believe I have a first and fourth grader now!
(Ayden didn't want a picture)

I had my now bi-weekly (soon to be weekly) doctor's appointment and had another ultrasound to check the baby's growth. She was measuring a little small at the last appointment- only in the 20th percentile, so they wanted to check her again and see how her growth was. She now weighs in at about 4 1/2 pounds and she's closer to the 50th percentile, so she's right on track! I'm almost 33 weeks pregnant now and we were able to catch a quick shot of her face. I can't wait to see what she looks like!

My pregnant buddy Jodi and I went on a little sushi lunch date (Bad, I know! But we needed it) and meandered over to Hobby Lobby to look at decorations and fun stuff. I had a few little baby room DIY project ideas in mind. I found some cute paper lanterns to hang above the crib, and I needed some tissue paper and wooden letters. The letters were on sale for $1.49 each, so I got enough to spell her name.

I made some giant flower pom poms to hang in the corner of the nursery.

And here's a little peek of what I ended up doing with the letters. It's hard to tell because the lighting is bad (late night crafting!) but the colors are hot pink, white, teal, and grey. I'm definitely not an artist, so my painting skills were limited to stripes and polkadots, but I think they turned out pretty cute! I can't decide if I want to just hang them as is or if I should have add some ribbon or something to hang them from. We shall see.

And if you follow me on Facebook you may have already seen this. I posted a little teaser about an upcoming review/giveaway I'm working on right now! friends at Gelish MINI sent me some goodies and one lucky winner is going to win a complete gel nail set up (LED lamp, Basix kit, and 3 colors from the new summer line!) I'm really loving these bright, fun colors. Check back in the next week or so for your chance to win! Make sure you are following all of my social media sites so you'll know when the giveaway begins.

Anywho, there's a little update on what's been going on.
How's your summer break going?
How are you going to stay cool this summer?

Break Up With Your Makeup with Mirvaso

Wednesday, June 4, 2014

Let's talk skincare.

I've mentioned many times on this blog how important skin care is to me. When your skin is clear, healthy, moisturized, and well taken care of you just feel better about yourself. You have more self confidence, and that's a big deal!

When I was younger I had no idea what I was doing when it came to my skin. It was oily, very prone to acne, sensitive, and would get dry from using so many harsh, acne-fighting ingredients. Once I realized it wasn't just about targeting the acne and oil and was more about treating the skin as a whole by cleansing, toning, and moisturizing properly, most of my skin problems went away. I wasn't stripping my skin of it's natural oils and scrubbing the heck out of it any longer. I also wasn't caking on the foundation, concealer, and powder like I always had before to cover up any imperfections I found. Sure, I still wear makeup almost daily now, but my routine is much more simplified and faster due to the fact that my skin is healthy and clear. I wear sunscreen for UV protection every day. I never go to bed with my makeup on. I make sure to moisturize and use my eye creams religiously. My skin can breathe now, and it is much happier this way. As a result, I no longer avoid leaving the house on bad skin days and I have more self confidence- I can look people in the eye and not worry that they are seeing flaws and imperfections in my skin.

Wouldn't it be great if we could all have healthy, beautiful skin?
Would you love to break up with your makeup?

For anyone who suffers from rosacea, that time may be now.

 {click image to enlarge}
Mirvaso, created by Galderma Laboratories, L.P., is a topical gel used as an effective and safe way to treat the facial redness of rosacea, a common, inflammatory skin condition that affects about 16 million people in America. Rosacea is more common with women than men, and the most common symptom is persistent facial redness. This is caused by dilated facial blood vessels that increase blood flow to the surface of the skin and cause it to look red.

Have you been covering up your facial redness rather than treating it? According to Galderma Laboratories, L.P., over 4 in 5 (82%) of rosacea sufferers use cosmetics to cover their facial redness. They tend to be more self conscious and wear makeup more frequently. This statistic is crazy- 65% of rosacea sufferers wear makeup to work compared to only 35% of Americans who don't have rosacea. Just over half of Americans (53%) wear makeup overall, compared to 77% of rosacea sufferers. 51% say they skip the dermatologist because they are worried about the cost of treatment, but on average, rosacea sufferers spend $36 on a single non-prescription product that promises to hide or cover up facial redness.
