The Sunny Summer Swap {sign up!}

Monday, April 29, 2013

I have an excited announcement that I've been hinting around at lately. Remember this fun book and polish swap I co-hosted back in March? Well, we got a ton of positive feedback from you guys and many people requested that we do another swap in the future (who didn't love getting their package in the mail?!)

Summer is probably my favorite time of year and I love spending time outside with my kids by the water, enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful weather. I know I'm not alone here, right?

So my bloggy BFFs Amber, Sarah, & I would like to announce our 2nd swap:

This one is all about summer.

Sign up, get paired up, shop for some of your favorite summer must-have items, and swap via mail!

(I've supplied a list of summery ideas below)

Interested in participating? Never swapped before? Read on-

  • Sign ups: today through May 14th
  • Email with partner assignments: May 15th
  • All packages sent out by: June 1st
  • Reveal post/link up: June 10th
  • $25 spending limit
  • Open to US residents only
  • Fill out this form here to sign up.

Need some ideas? I thought you might. I went to Target the other day to get some ideas from summer must-haves. Your swap box can be filled with whatever you want:

A good summer read, your favorite summer nail polish (think bright, fun colors), self-tanner, sunscreen, magazines, makeup (summery shadows, lipglosses, bronzers, etc), lotion, summery fragrances (Bath & Body Works type stuff), anything coconut scented, favorite tea or summer drink mixes, sunglasses, a cute sun hat, fruity bubble bath/shower gel, stationary items- notepads, mini calendars, to-do lists, etc, flip flops or inexpensive sandals, beach tote, beach towel, picnic blanket, can koozies (beer/soda can coolers), jewelry- earrings, necklace, rings, bracelets, etc, a light-weight scarf, hair accessories (clips, headbands, wraps, etc), beachy candles or Scentsy, summer-themed picture frames or wall art, grilling accessories, bright kitchen accessories, plastic margarita glasses, colorful wallet or clutch, bright colored tank top or sun dress, gift card

Mark these dates somewhere on your calendar, and check your email often- even your spam or junk folder. Lots of blogger's emails end up in the spam folder (maybe because we send out so many? Who knows!)  Emails will go out on the 15th, so keep an eye on your inbox for a message saying Sunny Summer Swap or something similar.

Follow the hosts on Twitter to stay up to date on swap stuff!

We'll be tweeting updates & love connecting with you guys through social media!
Use the hashtag #SunnySummerSwap when tweeting all things swap related :)

Once swap partner assignments are sent out, get moving! Don't let that email sit in your inbox without replying to it. Get in touch with your partner ASAP! Say hi, introduce yourself, follow each others' blogs, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, etc and get to know each other a little. What does your partner like? Does she like to read? What's her favorite color? Is she a nail polish fan? Does she drink tea or coffee? Does she live somewhere warm? Ask some questions and check out each other's Pinterest boards or Goodreads lists for swap ideas.

Once we email swap partners assignments, it's in your hands. How this swap turns out is entirely up to you and how active/social you are with your partner. You have to take the initiative and contact each other- communicate! Let her know when you ship her package (give her the tracking number if you can!) Tell her if you're having problems finding something for her. Ask questions and keep each other informed. You can't expect to have fun with this swap and have a good experience if you don't actually participate, so have fun and don't be shy! This swap is all about meeting new bloggers.

Please leave a comment below if you have more ideas to add to the list of swap item ideas. Let's help each other brainstorm and get ideas for our swap boxes! I want to hear some of your favorite summer must-haves :)

I can't wait to get this swap started!

Please email me with any questions you might have.

Weekend Wrap Up

Good Monday morning, my lovely readers.
Anyone else not ready for Monday just yet?
Let's do a little recap of everything that happened, on & off the blog, this week!

I shared some pictures of where I live- The Pacific Northwest.

I spent a good portion of my week sitting outside in the sun, watching the kids play and ride their bikes. We had 3 days in a row of sunshine (though it was still a chilly 50-60ish degrees). I actually got a little sunburn on my shoulders and my chest, even though I had goosebumps sitting outside most of the day.

I finished up A Storm of Swords and it was definitely one of the best books I've ever read. I read for pretty much 3 days straight and it felt like it was taking me forever to make progress on it (900 pages on my Nook, almost 1200 in paperback!) It was absolutely amazing, and now I can't wait for the rest of season 3 of Game of Thrones. There were like five different parts of the book where my jaw dropped and I said "Did that just happen?!" The rest of the season should be good! Then I started The Elite. So far so good.

Had to snap a picture of this because it was so sweet. We live on a private road and we have to walk the garbage cans down to the end of the road every week for trash pickup. He saw our can sitting there empty and brought it back for me on his way home from the school bus stop- without having to be asked. Most days he tries to remember to bring me the mail too so I don't have to walk down there. What a sweet kid!

Speaking of mail, we got a package from the kids' Auntie! Lily loves packages, as you can see. She was waiting for the UPS guy on the front porch since she woke up.

Auntie sent us tons of fun stuff and plenty of goodies (like the new hoodie she's wearing), but Lily's favorite thing was the loaf of cinnamon bread from one of our favorite bakeries she goes to. She thinks of everything. The entire loaf was gone in 24 hours.

They also got this really cool book on bugs and reptiles, and I caught them reading it together for like an hour while I was cleaning and making dinner. It was so cute! They love learning about stuff like that.

I hosted another week of Things I {don't}Love

I linked up to The Nail Files & shared this new color.
Make sure to check out this Summer Blog Swap I'm co-hosting!
Sign ups begin today & close May 14th, so make sure to sign up ASAP.

Hope you guys had a great week!

Happy Friday Everyone!

I'm linking up to The Nail Files today with the lovely Tara from Fabulous But Evil.

I haven't linked up here in a few weeks and I have some new nail colors I need to try out, so I figured this is the perfect chance to break them out.

Today I'm wearing Avon Nailwear Pro in Jade.
{click to enlarge}

I can't decide how I feel about this color. I like it, but it's not quite the jade I was looking for. This one is a little light for me and reminds me more of a mint color. I wanted it to be a little bit deeper, but I think I still like it. Green isn't really a color I wear much, so I'm hoping to add a little pop of color somewhere with the right outfit and this polish.

What do you think?

Things I {don't} Love

Thursday, April 25, 2013

Good morning lovelies!
I hope you're having a great week so far.
I'm sure you've got a few complaints, so lets talk about them in a linky I like to call

Here's how it works: write up your own Things I {don't} Love post and link it up here. Please make sure to grab a button or link back to my blog in some way, then hop around the link ups and check out some other blogs. Linky parties are a great way to meet new people and find some fun new blogs to follow, so have fun and be social. I always read and try to comment on every single link up!
Irresponsible pet owners. I don't own animals because for a reason: I don't want to have to clean up after another living thing. I already have 3 of them- 2 children and a husband. So when me or one of my kids step in dog crap in our yard, at the park, for a walk, or whatever, it seriously pisses me off. Pick up after your animal! Do you know how rude it is to let your dog run around and just poop wherever it wants and to leave it? What if I let my kids pull their pants down & just crap in your yard? Would you like that? Probably not.

Strange sleep cycles. I've been plagued by this a lot lately. Usually I'm a night owl, especially because of my husband's job. We're always up late, but lately I've been going to bed earlier and waking up a lot earlier too. Last night I was in bed by 8pm. Because of this I woke up at 5:56 this morning, and I am not a morning person. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Kids growing up. I've mentioned this one before, but it's really hitting me. Sometimes I'm OK with it but if I think about it for too long my anxiety takes over and my stomach turns to knots. I just got this in the mail for my little Lulu & I can't believe my littlest baby will be in Kindergarten soon :(

Now it's your turn.

Link up your own Things I {don't}Love post.
Make sure to follow me on Twitter too so we can stay connected!

Enjoying the Pacific Northwest

Tuesday, April 23, 2013

Sometimes I forget what a beautiful area I live in.
If you've never been to The Pacific Northwest, you're really missing out.

Now don't get me wrong. I'm a California girl at heart- I was born in Orange, Ca and lived there until my parents decided to move us to North Idaho when I was six. My mom had lived for a few years as a child and wanted us kids to grow up in a smaller town, and I'm thankful for that now. Crazy to think where I might be now had we never left California. How different my life would be now!

After I met my husband, we decided to move to Washington state and that's where we've been raising our family ever since. We love living in this great state! I guess that makes me a Washington girl now...

I've mentioned before that I live in the greater Seattle area. No, I don't live in Seattle. We tried that once and it just wasn't for us (the big city, that is). We prefer the suburbs.

I live near it though, and part of Puget Sound is only a 15 minute drive from my house.

Twilight fans always ask me how close I am to Forks, and while I am relatively close, it's still a 4 hour drive & a ferry away. But the woods and the overcast skies in the book/movie are a dead ringer for where I live! It's very accurate.

Remember this scene from the movie? It really looks like that here.

Just last week my husband, our daughter, and I went for a little scenic drive on some back roads on our way to another city near us. There were tons of trailheads right off the road marking hiking trails and scenic viewpoints overlooking The Sound. Even though it was a cool, drizzly 40-something degrees we still enjoyed the sights and went for a little walk through the woods.

This waterfall was right off the side of the road.

Where one of the trails started.

Check out those giant ferns behind Lily.

The trail took us to a little cliff overlooking the Sound- that's the Pacific Ocean behind us.

Hiking back up the trail to the road.

Having fun on our adventure!

Isn't it gorgeous? I couldn't believe the size of some of the trees we saw!

It was so quiet out there in the woods. It was really peaceful. I can't wait to go back with Ayden (he was at school this day) on a sunny day when it's a tad warmer out.

This was the same area last summer, just down on the beach.
Those are islands out there. So pretty on clear days.

If you're ever in my neck of the woods, make sure to come say hi!
Maybe we can find some vampires or werewolves next time.
