Things I {don't} Love

Thursday, February 28, 2013

It's that time again! We made it past Hump Day, and Friday is so close. It's been a long week. Anyone else feel that way?! I like to start my Thursday mornings with a cup of coffee and a little linky party called Things I {don't} Love. So grab a cup and let loose! Tell me what you're currently not loving this week.

Here's what I'm currently not loving:

Sleeping like crap. Lately I've been sleeping so horribly for months now. Night sweats, chills, tossing and turning, waking up every hour, not being able to stay asleep- you name it, I've got it if it's a sucky sleeping thing. I'm am not a morning person. I miss sleep. I need my sleep.

Coughing. I've been sick for what seems like forever, and I have this cough that just won't go away. I get winded if I walk 5 steps and then I have a coughing fit that lasts for a few minutes. It's pretty hard to get anything done like that.

Pinterest tips that result in me blowing up my microwave. Yep, that happened. I was trying this pin and the water exploded inside the microwave, frying it. Thankfully it didn't blow up in my face, because I've read plenty of stories online where people were badly burned or cut by boiling water and broken glass from similar incidences. I think I'll be finding a new cleaning method from now on. After I buy a new microwave, that is.

It's your turn to link up your own Things I {don't} Love post.

Please remember to grab the button to help spread the word. You can even follow me on Twitter and let me know what you're currently not loving too. Twitter is a great way to keep up with me because I tweet links to every blog post, giveaway, linky party, and guest blog that I do, so if you follow me there you'll never miss out on anything. I can't wait to hear what you guys are writing about!

I love juicing!

Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Remember my post about some life changes I posted a few weeks back? You know, where I mentioned my new found obsession love of yoga, and talked about my attempt at improving my overall physical and mental health? Well I've now added juicing to the mix and I wanted to share it with you guys.

My husband bought this Jack LaLanne Power Juicer on a whim at Costco about 6 years ago (and yes, it's just like the one you see on the infomercials- it actually works great!) We used it a few times and quickly grew tired of the "health kick" we were briefly on and the juicer remained in the box for years after that. I just recently pulled it out of the box, dusted it off, and set it up on the counter right next to my coffee maker in hopes of maybe using it. And you know what? I have been.

First, let me start by saying that I'm not a nutritionist or a juicing expert by any means. I couldn't tell you if juicing your fruits and vegetables is just as healthy as eating them, and I've heard people argue on that one. (Read this little bit of info on juicing here). However, I can tell you that juicing is healthier than not eating your fruits and veggies at all, so for me, that's good enough. I figured this was at least a good way for me to get some extra vitamins and nutrients, even if it isn't exactly the same as eating all of the produce whole.

My favorite juice recipe

I've heard people say that juicing is expensive, and I'm sure it can be depending on what produce you use. Right now is not really the best time of year to buy tons of fresh produce for juicing, so stick with the basics and change it up later when more fruits and veggies are in season and are plentiful (and cheaper!) Here's what I've been making for myself daily:

2 apples
1 orange
3-4 carrots
1 or 2 handfuls of spinach
5 or 6 strawberries (I don't always add these but they were on sale this week)

I'm sure some people are cringing at the veggies in the juice, but I promise, you can't even taste them. The carrots maybe a little bit, but they actually have a very sweet flavor. And combined with the apples, oranges, and berries you really can only taste the delicious fruit.

Mmmmm. Doesn't this look appetizing? You have to make sure to stir it up really well and drink it immediately. Don't let it sit for too long and don't save it for later because as it oxidizes and sits it will lose some of it's vitamins and nutrients. Plus, this juice isn't pasteurized like the stuff at the store, so it can quickly develop bacteria and become contaminated if you don't drink it right away.

This makes more than enough juice for myself, so the kids will actually drink whatever is left over. Yep, my kids love this stuff. They were a little put off by the green color at first, but after they tried a sip they were hooked. My daughter pouts now if I'm making juice and there isn't any left over for her!

See? The kids approve.

Have you ever juiced? Or wanted to try it? I'd love to hear your experiences and recipes!

The Pinspiration Project #25

Monday, February 25, 2013

Sarah, Amber, & I have talked and we've all mutually decided to end The Pinspiration Project, so this will be our last week hosting this linky party. It's been a lot of fun and we've done it for 25 weeks. That's a lot of Pinterest inspired projects! I want to thank everyone who's participated and linked up- especially the ones who have stuck with us since the beginning and have linked up pretty much every week since it started. Our blogs have all grown and matured a lot over the last few months and finding time for this on top of everything else was just getting to be a little more work than fun for me lately. I still love me some Pinterest though! So I will still be doing lots of crafty stuff in the near future.

Now let's get down to business!

Here's my "pin"-spiration:

 And here's my version:
I'm not crazy about this stuff. My clothes are soft, but they don't have that fabric softener smell. I'm going to use this up, but I'm considering just buying Downey again, because I love how it makes my clothes smell.

Now it's your turn!

Being sick & new blog design

Friday, February 22, 2013

Forgive me if I've been a little MIA lately, but we've been sick.

First Ayden got it (and probably brought it home from school).
He slept like this the first night, with 2 pairs of wool socks, 2 hoodies, and an earmuff/headband thingy to keep his ears warm. I think he was hoping to ward off the sickness overnight like this, but it was a little late at this point.

Then Lulu got it. And when she gets sick, she gets it bad. Poor thing.

Next up? You guessed it. Mom's turn to get sick.
Thankfully my husband know how to nurse me back to health.

Hopefully I start feeling better this weekend because I have so much work to do on the blog and around the house.

Speaking of blog, did you notice that it got a makeover?! My bloggy BFF Sarah did it! I absolutely love the new look and I love how streamlined everything is. It was feeling too cluttered before and I wanted something different, and she nailed it. If you want a good blog design and you don't want to pay a fortune you should definitely talk to Sarah because not only is she awesome, but she's super affordable too. $20 for blog design! It's seriously a steal! Go check out some of her before and afters if you're looking for a new blog designer- Sarah might be your gal!

If you signed up for the Lucky Leprechaun book & polish swap make sure to check your email! Swap partner assignments were mailed out yesterday. Make sure to get in contact with your partner so you can start planning your swap! This is going to be a fun one.

Things I Don't Love

Thursday, February 21, 2013

It's that time again! We made it past Hump Day, and Friday is so close. It's been a long week. Anyone else feel that way?! I like to start my Thursday mornings with a cup of coffee and a little linky party called Things I {don't} Love. So grab a cup and let loose! Tell me what you're currently not loving this week.

Here's what I'm currently not loving:

Sick babies. She's so pitiful when she's sick and I feel so helpless.

My electricity bill. Electric heat is expensive and it's been cold. Come on Spring- I can't afford this!

Blow drying my hair. Seriously, this is one of those instances where I wish I were rich because I'd pay someone to come wash & blow out my hair a couple of times each week. I absolutely loathe drying my hair because it's so thick and curly. My hair doesn't look very cute with the natural curl in it so it ends up taking me about 30 minutes to dry it myself. That's including frequent breaks to give my arms a rest. I usually end up sweaty and frustrated by the time I'm done.

It's your turn to link up your own Things I {don't} Love post.
