My Review: The Hip Hop Dance Experience

Thank you to Ubisoft for sponsoring this post. Please visit Ubi.com to learn more about Ubisoft. I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective. #UbiChamps

After trying out Just Dance Disney Party and The Avengers: Battle for Earth, I was excited when the opportunity came up to review The Hip Hop Dance Experience for XBOX Kinect. I was worried that a few of the song choices wouldn't be great for them, but since one of my New Year's Resolutions is to exercise and move more, I figured I could always play it by myself and burn some calories while making good on my resolution.

They immediately popped the game in and navigated through the set up menus like nothing. One thing that I love about the Kinect dance games is that even a child can set up the game really easily. My son scanned through the song list and found a few songs they both know. Lily loves "Airplanes" by B.o.B. featuring Haley Williams of Paramore (Lil and I both love Haley's voice). Ayden's favorite was "Sexy and I Know it" by LMFAO (I think he's seen it on some TV commercials).
This dance is hard!

Actually, all of the dances were pretty challenging. It was a little hard for the kids to keep up at times. There are three different levels of difficulty though, so we started on the lowest one and that certainly made it more kid-friendly. The game is rated T for teen, so maybe my kids are a tad young though.

However, after they were done and went back to playing Play-doh, mommy had her turn! I am so thankful that I remembered to close the blinds before doing this in the middle of the day because I'm sure I looked incredibly uncoordinated while I fumbled around trying to follow the dance moves. This game is no joke! If you want a good workout and want to have fun, this game is for you. Bonus points if you can actually dance, but regardless I still had a blast. And I'm sure I burned a lot of calories too!

This game would be a lot of fun to play with a group of friends because of the different features and modes that you can play. There's Dance Party, Dance Battle (multi-player), Power Skooling (training), and a shuffle mode called Dance Marathon. Dance Battle was a lot of fun and I'm totally not lying when I say I whooped my 8 year old to TLC's "Creep." I don't think he realized that TLC was my jam back in 1994. Lily and I had the most fun customizing our avatars together to make them look like us. You can accessorize them too!

All in all I'd say this game is pretty awesome. I'm going to have some fun playing around with it by myself as a way to get my butt moving!

You can get your own copy of Hip Hop Dance Experience here on Amazon.

Thank you to Ubisoft for this opportunity!
