A little trip to Target

Of course, on the day that I don't want to go anywhere, my keyboard breaks on my laptop. And by "keyboard" I mean the ghetto $10 external keyboard I have plugged in to my laptop because the actual laptop keyboard itself was destroyed by a giant cup of coffee right, remember? Yeah, so for a while now I've had this awesome keyboard (with a cord, mind you!) that's allowed me to still use my computer this whole time. Unfortunately that cord finally broke today.
Since I can't blog if I can't type I figured a trip to Target was a must. So even though it was like 5 degrees out today (I'm totally lying it was like 30-something) Lily and I braved the cold and headed to our favorite place in the world.

Of course we had to make an immediate pit stop for coffee and Icees. You can't shop without a beverage!
Lily knows how to shop. We started off in the little seasonal area right by the doors and looked at all of the cute Valentine's Day stuff. Somehow I made it out of there without a bunch of junk I didn't need.

Next we looked at housewares, where Lily showed me all of the cute bedroom stuff they have that she wants for her big girl room. They have some really cute stuff on the children's bedroom aisle! Actually, this lamp caught my eye because it's so similar to one that I made a while back and blogged about.
Remember this one?
This was from April 2011 and I blogged about it here.

Here's the one I saw at Target:
Kinda similar, huh? I guess I should have tried just the couple rows of ruffles at the bottom like they did.

Then I saw these cute pillows:
Pretty sure I could make something like these! I want to try now.

Love these unicorn banks! I really wanted one until my 4 year old asked for one too.

We stopped to look at bathing suits (YES bathing suits!)
Note how bundled up Lil is. It was freezing that day! She loved the blue sparkly one the best. I told her we'd come back for it in August when we get our 2 weeks of sunshine. Of course by then they'll have Christmas trees out again. Also, my daughter isn't allowed to wear bikinis.

We got sidetracked and spent a long time on the toy aisle, specifically the Barbie one. Our Target finally restocked the Monster High stuff. Are your girls into Monster High?! Mine has been for about a year now and their stuff is always sold out everywhere I go.
This is a new girl they have named Rochelle Goyle and I think she's cute!

We finally made it out of Target after about 45 minutes of browsing the entire store with just my wireless keyboard and our drinks. I think that's a Target record because we didn't buy anything extra!
This is what my laptops looks like now. Still pretty ghetto, but I splurged. I decided to avoid another broken cord later on and I got a wireless on this time. And by splurge I mean I spent $15 instead of $10...that's a splurge for me!

So where's your favorite place to shop? Have you seen all of the cute housewares stuff at Target?

  4. Ohhh Target... How I love thee.
Whoever has been doing their marketing and product selection is a bloody genius. Except for one thing: Why, for the love of warm bodies, are their bathing suit displays at Target, in the PNW, in January?! I saw this the other week and was dumbfounded. Especially because the swimsuit display was directly across the aisle from knit hats and scarves. So silly.
But on that note, I also only put one-pieces on my girl. She can have her first bikini at, like, 16. Seriously. Modest moms, unite! :)

  5. Oh Target me three, how I adore thee. I had to put myself on Target probation LOL I am not kidding! I was spending 100 a visit so I stopped going for a year. Yep cold Target turkey. Of course to add torture to torture they built a new one, drat ! Now I only allow myself to go in with a list and stick to it and I am not allowed to go until I run out of paper products . Very smart with the keyboard I love how you are frugal, you set a good example for all of us. Looks like a adorable fun Mother Daughter day! Target is divine for us home types.

  7. Supposedly the bathing suits are displayed at this time of year because wealthy people typically go on vacations (cruises, exotic beaches) in January.

Target is always fun! Between them and Publix (a semi-upscale-ish grocery store, not sure if you have one) I manage to avoid Wal-Mart!

  8. Target is my bank account's worse enemy. I've been unemployed for the last few months while I got some more schooling, so I was forced to ban myself from Target - but I know where my first destination will be when my first paycheck hits the bank!

(the library, of course, so I can use the Internet and start paying my student loans...what did you think?! LOL)

I just came across your blog - I don't know how technical you are, or if you know anyone who might be, but if you decide you want to "un-ghetto" your laptop at some point, it's surprisingly easy to replace a laptop keyboard. You can buy them on eBay - prices vary, I think last time I bought one it was about $27 for a new one. You pop that top panel out, the one with your power button - on most models you just stick a screwdriver in and wedge it open. It is by FAR the most nervewracking part, because you hear the plastic creaking and you're a little terrified it's going to split in half - at least, I am, every time, but I've never had anything actually happen. Then it's generally just a matter of unscrewing two screws, pushing up the latch that holds the cable in place, and the old keyboard is free. Reverse the process and you have a new keyboard. I've replaced keyboards at least three times - I had one laptop in particular that wound up with a handful of keys completely off, and another handful superglued on, and once I had the keyboard replaced I was shocked I hadn't tried it sooner.
