Things I {don't} Love Thursday- Linky Party!

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

A couple of weeks ago I started doing Things I {don't} Love Thursdays. A few people commented saying they would like it if this were a linky party, so that's exactly what I've decided to do!

It's pretty simple: all you have to do is make a blog post about things you don't love, or things you currently don't like. It could be anything. You know how everyone does Things I Love Thursday? Just do that but think of things you hate. Easy peasy, right? It could be a pop culture trend, a beauty item, a fashion trend, a hairstyle, a restaurant, a book, a movie, a person (keep it clean people!), a song, a store, etc, etc, etc. You can do just one thing you don't like or you can do 20. Got it? Good. Make sure to follow me via GFC {under my picture in the left column}, add the button below to your blog or blog post {or link to this blog}, and then link up your Things I {don't} Love Thursday post! Make sure to follow me via Twitter as well so we can tweet each other about our mutual dislikes! :)

Soooooooo, here's what I'm currently not loving:

1. Mid Season Finales
Really AMC? How could you do this to me after it was getting so good? Yes, it's true...this Sunday {Dec 6th} is the mid season finale for season 3. That means we won't see Rick, The Governor, or that crazy one armed guy again until sometime in February, 2013. Lame! Merry Christmas to you too AMC.

2. Two ingredient Pinterest recipes
You've seen those on Pinterest, right? You know, the ones the say "Awesome! Only 2 ingredients! Super easy & soooooo yummy!!! Must try!" I have to admit that I was skeptical, so I decided to try one out around Thanksgiving. The one pictured above is supposed to be pumpkin spice cookies, made with only a box of spice cake mix and a can of pumpkin. Mix together, drop onto cookie sheet, bake for X amount of time, then devour. Mine went like this: Mix together, almost break your wrist trying to stir this thick ass "cookie" dough, drop clumpy spoonfuls onto cookie sheet, bake, take a bite, spit out in trash, dump entire tray of cookies into garbage, spoon leftover dough into garbage, and finally sit and be pissy that you were duped into thinking these things would be edible.

3. Target trying to be all fancy
Now don't get me wrong...I love me some Target. It's like one of the happiest places on earth for me, along with Hobby Lobby and Barnes & Noble. However, I'm kind of getting annoyed with some of these "fancy" high end changes Target has been making. I went to pick up a few kitchen items like a new dish rack, some oven mitts, and a couple of dish towels. I was shocked at the prices of the kitchen linens there! They only had 2 designer brands...that was it! There was no cheaper option or anything. I was not about to pay $5.99 for 1 dish towel so I had to go elsewhere. Boo Target! I love you but I can't afford most of your stuff now :(

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for...

I'm linking up again with Michelle from The Vintage Apple.
My pins don't really have a theme or anything this week. It's just a random jumble of stuff I haphazardly pinned at 1 o'clock in the morning.

French toast casserole for Thanksgiving breakfast. Sounds yummy and easy.

I don't even know what these are but they are owls & they are cute.

Copycat Recipe: Starbucks Caramel Brulee Latte {Holiday Drink!}

Tuesday, November 20, 2012

I have a confession.
I'm not a huge Starbucks fan.
I've had so many people look at me like I'm crazy when I've said that, but it's true! Sorry Sbux fans but I think their coffee is too bitter & sometimes burnt tasting.

I do, however, enjoy their seasonal holiday beverages!
My favorite has to be the Caramel Brulee Latte one, and I may or may not be guilty of buying one almost every single day in November & December. (At $4.45 for a grande I don't even want to think of what the math is on that).

Luckily I did some researching and figured out what exactly is in the caramel brulee latte that gives it it's signature flavor. It's not just caramel, because I've had a caramel latte before.

Here's the {not so}secret ingredients:
Lulu & Sweet Pea

It's vanilla syrup and caramel sauce (like caramel ice cream topping).
Here's how you can make your own at home:

1. Drizzle 2 Tbsp caramel sauce around inside of mug
2. Add 1-2oz of Torani vanilla syrup
3. Add 2-4oz espresso or strongly brewed coffee
4. Fill the rest of the mug with about 8-10oz of steamed milk.
Stir & enjoy!

Lulu & Sweet Pea

These measurements are not exact because they could vary depending on the size of the drink you make & how strong you like your lattes. I used a fairly large mug & I like double shots, so I probably used the larger measurements from above. You can also adjust the vanilla & caramel to your desired sweetness too, of course.

The first one I made tasted exactly like the ones at Starbucks, except I used my favorite brand of coffee so it wasn't as bitter. So all in all, I think my version is better! And it's a fraction of the cost. Can't beat that.
