Did you miss me?!

I've been gone for far too long and I apologize. I had some internet issues for the last few weeks & was only able to get online via my blackberry, and I couldn't post any of the pictures I took from there so I decided to not really blog at all until I could get on my laptop. So now I will finally share them with you.

Remember this quilt & pillow I made for my pregnant friend?

Well, her baby shower was a few weeks ago and I made a couple of other goodies to throw in with the quilt and pillow.
(Aren't we cute? She had the nicest shower I think I've ever been to. And thankfully, baby Cooper is out now!)

I made some cute little onesies with neckties sewn onto them. I've seen them online and on other blogs before and I had been dying to make a few so this was the perfect opportunity.

 I love the striped one!

Cute, huh? They were pretty easy to make. I drew the tie shape on some card stock first and then cut out the fabric. Then I ironed it onto the onesie with some heat bond stuff so that it would stay flat while I stitched around it. I just used a regular zigzag stitch and I think it turned out nicely. (you can click on the pictures to enlarge them).
I also made 8 really cute burp cloths, but I forgot to take pictures :( Sorry! I didn't think about it until after I gave it as a gift. I'm sure I'll be making more of those in the future though as gifts. All of the stuff together (the quilt, pillow, onesies, and burp cloths) made for a great baby shower gift and everything was hand made with love.

Mother's Day happened to fall on one of the weekends that I didn't have internet access, so I'll show you what I made for my mommy on her special day. It was kind of a last minute thought because I was going to just go buy something and mail it to her, but then I decided I really wanted to do give something hand made. I had a lot of scrap fabric, but not enough to make anything substantial. I sat and thought for awhile and I realized I had enough scraps to make a table runner. I saw some cute quilted ones in a book that I have, but it required larger pieces of fabric that I didn't have, so I just made up my own table runner. I cut the fabric into strips, all varying in widths. Then I laid them all out into a pattern that I liked & simply sewed the strips together. Then I just trimmed all of the ends so that they were all even, attached a backing, and sewed around it again. This is what the finished product looked like:

Here's a closer look & the backing that I put on it

Then I folded it up, wrapped it up with a bow, and sent it off to my mom. She loved it!

The table runner was a quick, fun, and easy project to do, and it didn't really cost me a thing because I already had everything on hand. It's a great way to use up all the little leftover remnants that I had stashed in the crafting room. Now I just need to make one for myself!

I'm really hoping to start some of my furniture refinishing projects that I mentioned in blogs before, so look for those to be posted soon (I hope!) Also, I'm trying to get my blog to grow, so if you have friends who you think might enjoy my blog then please, send them a link to me and have them follow! I'm hoping to do some kind of giveaway sometime soon too once I get some more followers. So share my blog with anyone that you know and I will figure out what I'd like to do as a thank you giveaway!

And how do you like the new look of my blog? I decided to change up the colors. I love yellow & grey together :)

  3. how cute are the bow ties, and you are quite crafty to be able to just whip that up for your mom. :) my sewing skills are certainly not up to that quite yet. (or perhaps it's my patience).
